What is gooning?
Gooning is a state of erotic dissociation achieved through repeated stimulation, in which the person falls into a deep, sensual trance. It’s not about prolonging pleasure or approaching orgasm – it’s about completely letting go of control and allowing the body to exist in pure sensation.
In a goon state, thoughts slow down or disappear altogether. The stroking continues, often automatically, while the body propels itself and the mind drifts into a foggy, floating space where language, time and intention dissolve. The goal is not the climax. In fact, many gooners are not even aware of whether they are approaching climax or not. Instead, they sink into the rhythm – the feedback loop between what is seen, felt, heard and fantasized – until everything else fades away.
Gooning often involves porn, mantras or familiar visual triggers, but these are not essential. What makes gooning work is not the tools, but the state itself. The body is active, the mind passive, and a kind of empty, buzzing joy takes over. Some describe this state as “stupidly awesome”, others as sacred or meditative. It can be achieved in ten minutes or three hours. There is no prescribed duration, technique or threshold. Gooning is not a method – it is an experience.
In this context, edging is something completely different. Edging is about restraint and delay, gooning is about surrender and loss of self. You can start an edging session and accidentally gooning when the boundaries disappear and the trance takes over. (See “Edging”)
Gooning can take place alone or in company, but the space is internal. It is not a performance and does not follow a script. There is no correct posture, no finish line and no checklist. Gooning lives deep within the individual: physically, emotionally and sometimes spiritually.
Sources that deal with gooning from stories rather than personal experience may come up with incorrect definitions of what gooning is. Gooning is personal. It’s not a performance and it’s not inherently addictive, dangerous or shameful. It is one of the many authentic ways people enter into altered erotic states.
For those who goon regularly, it becomes a familiar space. Not a routine, but a return. The body knows the way and the mind knows when to let go.
