What is a shemale?
The term “shemale” originally comes from the porn scene, where it usually referred to trans* women with typical female upper bodies (breasts, make-up) and male genitalia. In fetish settings, “shemale” became a buzzword for precisely this look and fantasy.
In the queer community today, “shemale” is often considered derogatory or reductive. Many trans* women find it insensitive because it reduces them to their genitals.
